Scribbles & Bits 31: Isn't It Ironic?

When growing up the child

chafes and quarrels with parental guidance!

All the time resting in the protection and love provided

Never seeing the worry and struggle the grown-ups

endure to provide the shelter for their offspring!

Inside the confines so irksome to the young

is comfort, shelter, food and warmth!

They can not wait until Mom or Dad no longer set the rules!

Yet few years hence!

They look longingly back at what now appears halcyon

when they need not worry

need not struggle to have their needs and wants sated!

Is this the reason we keep asking others to secure our days?

So often I wonder this very thing…. as granny always said, “youth is wasted on the young”

Yep, I think Samuel Clemons said something similar.

Truly a damn shame that every generation of young walk the identical pathway, finally coming to their senses too late

Um yep, and we, supposed adults don’t help by trying to keep our offspring dependent upon us.

Very true… repeated time and again. But I think I must be the exception that proves the rule… I don’t look back longingly at all.

Sometimes it is not the actual but the idealized picture we look longingly at.

I just cringe at the thought of going through the hell years again. They’re past… good frigging riddance.

Sorry if they were hell for you, that is never the way it should be.

Not my childhood. That was great. Started in my early 20’s… but if I returned to my childhood I’d have to grow up and go through those years again and there’s nothing on Earth worth that. Well…. maybe if it was necessary to save my wife or grandkids but surely nothing else.

That confirms my theory that all the ages that start with the T sound, two, toddler, ten, twelve teens and twenties are testing times. Who gets tested is up for grabs kid, parent or both.
